Episode #50: Giving a Killer Presentation
The “what” is easy. Craftwork is a specialty coffee shop and vibrant membership-based workspace with locations in Fort Worth and Austin. We serve craft coffee and are a connected coworking space. But you knew that already. Our “why” is our heart – we desire to create spaces and places where our members and customers experience connection and community.
Public speaking is the number one fear of many people…greater than the fear of death! The reality is, we will all likely need to speak in front of an audience at some point. But don’t worry, we have your back! This week, we draw from TED founder Chris Anderson’s advice on how to give a killer presentation to give you three things to remember before the next time you are in front of a crowd.
Chris is convinced that giving a fantastic talk is highly coachable. Some of his tips: Tell a story. Humans are wired to listen to stories, so make sure you are telling the authentic story about the problem you are solving. Don’t go broad, go deep. Instead of trying to cover too much ground, go into more detail. If you try to tell everything you know, you’ll lose the audience. Finally, be you. Be conversational. Make the talk your own. You know what’s distinctive about you and your idea. Give your talk from that authenticity. For more, read Chris’ HBR article.
We are more than excited to be opening our newest shop in Austin! Craftwork Domain opens this summer and we are looking for great teammates now. If you or someone you know loves people, loves coffee, and loves Austin, then we would love to hear from you. Click here to complete the application.
