Episode #53: Philosophy For A Happy Life
The “what” is easy. Craftwork is a specialty coffee shop and vibrant membership-based workspace with locations in Fort Worth (Foundry, Camp Bowie, Magnolia) and Austin (Domain). We serve craft coffee and are a connected coworking space. But you knew that already. Our “why” is our heart – we desire to create spaces and places where our members and customers experience connection and community.
We hope this finds each of you hopeful for the week ahead.
Sam Berns was born with a rare genetic disorder called progeria. Suffice it to say, Sam knew that he would face significant obstacles in life. Instead of choosing despair, Sam chose to use his challenges to create a philosophy for happiness. In this moving talk, 17 year old Sam lays out his principles that are an inspiration to us. We hope his talk is an encouragement to you as well.
So what are Sam’s principles? First, Sam says that we shouldn’t waste energy feeling bad for ourselves. We should acknowledge difficulty, know it is real, but then focus our energy on how to make things better. Second, we should spend as much time as possible with the inner circle who love us and are not afraid to tell us the truth. And finally, Sam tells us to keep moving forward. Sometimes this requires bravery and is not easy, but as Sam reminds us, “being brave isn’t supposed to be easy.” Philosophy For A Happy Life
One of Sam’s points is to surround yourself with people who care for you. Craftwork exists to be a place where you can do just that! When you bring a friend who has never been to a Craftwork, we will give them a free drink of their choice (from our basics menu). (Honor code on bringing a friend new to Craftwork and limit of 1 free drink per customer. Offer expires 6/17/19.)
If you are not a Craftwork coworking member, every Thursday in June, you can work from Craftwork for free. Come by, check in with our staff, meet our community (they are awesome), grab a seat, and do your thing. Our mission is that you thrive where you work. Spots are limited (4 at Camp Bowie, 4 at Magnolia, and 4 at Foundry). Find the location closest to you and RSVP here: Camp Bowie, Magnolia, or Foundry (limit one day per person, first time workspace guests only).
