Episode #81: KAIZEN AND REST
The “what” is easy. Craftwork is a specialty coffee shop and vibrant membership-based workspace with locations in Fort Worth (Foundry, Camp Bowie, Magnolia) and Austin (Domain). We serve craft coffee and are a connected coworking space. But you knew that already. Our “why” is our heart – we desire to create spaces and places where our members and customers experience connection and community.
We hope this finds you well.
Believing we can get better over time (Kaizen) and practicing rhythms of time being at peace with where we are (Rest) are individually important and synergistic. Kaizen and Rest feed off one another. The more we are able to practice rhythms of rest, the greater capacity we have to get incrementally better.
“Kaizen” is a Japanese word which means “incremental and continuous improvement.” Kaizen is a philosophy of improvement that says the best type of improvement involves a long obedience in the same direction, making sustainable changes over time. It means just 1% better each day. The dictionary definition of “Rest” is “to cease work or movement in order to refresh oneself, or recover strength.” Ceasing the movement of continuous improvement involves having peace about where we are in the present. We all rest differently but pausing work and nurturing gratitude are non-negotiables in our rest time. We recommend daily and weekly times for this. Rest produces Kaizen and Kaizen fosters Rest. Here’s to both in abundance to each of you in 2020.
