Episode #85: Measuring our life
The “what” is easy. Craftwork is a specialty coffee shop and vibrant membership-based workspace with locations in Fort Worth (Foundry, Camp Bowie, Magnolia) and Austin (Domain). We serve craft coffee and are a connected coworking space. But you knew that already. Our “why” is our heart – we desire to create spaces and places where our members and customers experience connection and community.
We hope this finds you well.
Many of us were struck yesterday with the tragic news of the passing of Kobe Bryant, his daughter, and seven other passengers in a helicopter crash in California. Kobe was such an important and embedded part of our culture that, on some level, the news of his death has had an impact on us all. Kobe’s pursuit of excellence born from his deep love for the game of basketball is captured well in his 2018 Oscar-winning short film Dear Basketball.
Author Max Anderson recently wrote, “Death has a way of focusing the mind.” Yesterday’s news has our mind focused on how we might lead the best possible life while we are here.
Author and professor Clayton Christenson also passed this week of cancer. As a business leader, Christenson had a clear understanding of the importance of measuring success. He knew that we can only truly manage what we can measure. After surviving his first bout of cancer, Christenson’s thoughts turned to how he would measure success in his life. Christensen concluded the metric by which his life will be assessed would not be books sold, income created, or degrees earned. Rather, his metric would be the individual lives he has touched. What is the metric by which you want your life to be measured? One way to honor the events of yesterday is to focus our minds around such an important question. How Will You Measure Your Life?
