Episode #49: Defining Success
The “what” is easy. Craftwork is a specialty coffee shop and vibrant membership-based workspace with locations in Fort Worth and Austin. We serve craft coffee and are a connected coworking space. But you knew that already. Our “why” is our heart – we desire to create spaces and places where our members and customers experience connection and community.
How do you define success? John Wooden is considered the greatest basketball coach of all time with more wins and championships than any other. The most successful coach of all time warns us against a definition of success that compares ourselves to others. Rather than comparison, Coach Wooden urges us all to pursue the best in ourselves.
Wooden says that most people define success as the accumulation of material possessions or the attainment of power or prestige. The problem with this definition of success is that it is a comparison to others. Of course we can learn from others, but success does not come from being better than someone else. As Wooden defines it, success is the “peace of mind attained through self-satisfaction in knowing you made the effort to do the best of which you’re capable.” May each of us have that peace this week.
